Registration procedure (updated 01/07/01):

It is still possible to register to the conference until September.
If you want to participate to the conference, 2 or 3 kinds of Registration are necessary with different degrees of urgency :

  1. Abstract Registration : 
    Oral presentation can no more be submitted
    Some posters very relevant to the conference can still be accepted. Please,  fill in the online Abstract form 

  2. Conference Registration :
    Please,  fill in the online Conference Registration form

    The fees cover lecture Hall booking, secretarial expenses, proceedings and some social events : welcome drink, conference dinner, open cultural evening and coffee breaks. The fees are now : 440 Euros (220 Euros for students).

    As soon as you have paid, please send an E-Mail to Scint2001@cern.ch to tell us on which day and by which means or bank you have paid. This will help us to identify your payment. Only in this case, we will be able to acknowledge your payment.

    If you want to pay your fees at the conference desk, the fees will be 2900FF. Credit card can not be considered but dollars can be accepted if you have the right cash (400$).

  3. Hotel Reservation :
    The hotel Reservation is handled directly by the "Office du tourisme" of Chamonix. 
    Please,  fill in the online Hotel Reservation form before August 1

Generalities (updated 06/12/00):
  • The conference language will be English without translation.
  • Citizens from certain countries need a Visa to enter France and Switzerland (see Visa).
  • For transportation, see Regular Transports and Conferences Coaches.
  • The organisation committee regrets that the conference limited resources do not allow in principle any contribution to travel expenses, registration fees or hotel bills of the participants.

Industrial Exhibition (updated 15/02/01):

Industrial firms can hire space in a large exhibition room in the heart of the Majestic Conference Centre by modules of 3, 6, 9, 12m2. For each exhibitor, 1 or 2 tables of 80x120 or 120x200, 1 or 2 chairs and white panels of 120x240 for posters are available.
Electric plugs are available, but connections to Internet should be requested.

Information on Chamonix (updated 06/12/00) :

  • Chamonix is a well-known mountain resort of about 10 000 permanent residents. It has all the facilities you may need, such as banks, travel agencies, garages, catholic and protestant churches, taxis, hospital, general practitioners and specialists, dentists, chemists, kindergarten, restaurants, snack-bars, pizzerias, cinemas, night-clubs, etc…
  • Access to Chamonix can be by:

          - Autoroute from Geneva (A40, 85 km) or from Lyon (A42, 235km)
          - Regular buses and trains from Geneva airport and station
          - International trains from Paris and Lyon to St Gervais-Le Fayet and Chamonix

    More precise indications and timetables are given below (see Regular Transports).

Conference buses will be arranged from Geneva and Lyon on September 15 , 16 (and 21, 22 for return) (see Conference coaches). 

  • In September, weather in Chamonix should be mild in afternoons (10~20oC), but nights and mornings may be quite cool (down to 0oC!). Layered mid-season clothing is adequate. Pullover, anorak and mountain or good walking shoes are recommended for hiking. For dinner, informal dress is appropriate.

Regular Transports :

By road
From Geneva or from Lyon, rejoin the Autoroute Blanche A40, leave it in Chamonix Sud and follow the arrows "Congress Center Le Majestic" or "office du Tourisme".

By air: 
Geneva Cointrin airport is the international airport nearest to Chamonix. From there, you can either:

  • hire a car at Cointrin,

  • take a regular bus (see timetable below)

  • take one of the special coaches arranged for the conference (see Conference Coaches).

If you land on Lyon St Exupery (Satolas) international airport,  you can either :

  • hire a car,

  • take a regular Train (see below)

  • take one of the special coaches arranged for the conference (see Conference Coaches).

By train : 
   
If you arrive in Geneva Cornavin station, you can reach Cointrin airport by frequent trains (every 12 mn). (Also most international trains continue to Cointrin). In Cointrin, you will have the alternatives listed above.
    You can also pickup a regular train (see below for link to timetable) leaving from Geneva Cornavin or Eaux-Vives station. To reach the Eaux-Vives station from Cornavin, take a taxi or bus 8 + Tram 12.
     Or you can take a regular bus (see timetable below) at the "gare routière", place Dorcière, a 5’ walk from Cornavin (down the rue du Mont Blanc behind the English church).

      If you arrive in Lyon, there is no regular bus from railway station or airport to Chamonix in this season but from Paris and Lyon, there are regular rail connections (SNCF) to St Gervais-Le Fayet and Chamonix (see below for link to timetable)

For trains from Geneva or Geneva-Eaux-Vives to Chamonix and return, please, click on:

and just fill in "Stations":Geneva and Chamonix-Mont-Blanc and the date and nothing else. You will see all the trains of the day (use  earlier and  later connections).

Regular train Lyon -Chamonix and St Gervais-Chamonix
For trains from Lyon station (Part-Dieu) or airport (St Exupéry) to Chamonix or also from St Gervais-Le Fayet to Chamonix, please click on:

Special conference coaches: Updated 10/09/01

Using the information given by some of you about their trip to Chamonix, we propose  some special conference coaches from Geneva and from Lyon before the conference start and at the end. Please, send us a mail  (scint2001@cern.ch) telling us if you intend to take one of these special conference coaches, which one, when and from where. Please, keep watching our Web site until conference start in case of any change!

Two special coach lines (free of charge) will run from Geneva and Lyon at beginning (September 15 and 16) and end (September 21 and 22) of the conference. There will be no conference coaches during the conference itself. The planned lines are the following:

Visa :

Citizens from certain countries need a French Visa to come to the conference in Chamonix.
If you plan to arrive by Geneva Airport, you need also a swiss Visa because from Airport to Chamonix all transports pass by Switzerland. Moreover, an optional excursion in Switzerland will be also organised during the conference.

We are ready to send you  invitation letters for your visa request. If you effectively need this letter, please send us (scint2001@cern.ch) as soon as possible the following information (also for your "accompagnants" if any):
